Why Wait?
As we approach the new year, our newsfeeds are flooded with advertisements and other promotions encouraging people to get started now with your health and wellness goals for 2021 and claiming there is no better time than now. We know it’s true, but doubts and excuses keep creeping into our minds…
I’ll join a fitness program until you feel ready.
I’m not prepared to join a workout program where I’ll be asked to do things you’ve never tried before.
I’m worried that I’ll never be able to eat things I enjoy again.
I don’t have the energy it takes to get fit.
I have a lot going on right now. I’ll start once things calm down.

We’ve all felt or thought some if not all of these at one point in time or another. It’s totally normal, but it does not have to be. You can be healthy. You can have a fit and sexy body. You can become confident and happy. It comes down to one thing… how badly do you want those things?

No Better Time
Start by making the decision to get in better shape. Don’t wait until you feel ready. That day will never come. None of us feel completely ready to try something new, especially if it’s unfamiliar and challenging. We are creatures of habit. We don’t like to change. Change makes most of us REALLY uncomfortable. Potentially dealing with pain and/or discomfort terrifies us. We want to avoid those feelings at all costs, but guess what… transformation only happens on the other side of uncertainty. To paraphrase Tony Robbins, if you continue to do what you’ve always done, you’ll get what you’ve always had.
As soon as on a negative self-talk though sneaks in your mind, kick it out. Think of something positive. Put a photo of your goal as the Lock Screen image on your phone. As soon as you feel a negative, self-defeating thought enter you mind, look at that picture. Remind yourself of your goal. Get in a better mindset.

All of those ads you see about starting now, they’re right. There’s no better time than now. Take action today. Stop waiting. Stop making excuses about why now is not a good time to start or pick up on your fitness journey.
