THE BREAKDOWN

Time to break down how to build a vegan friendly meal further.

Protein

As mentioned above, if you’re vegan or simply looking to add more veggies to your life, 25% of your meal should be protein. Contrary to what many believe, there are plenty of plant  based protein sources to choose from. They include but are not limited to tofu, tempeh, lentils, seitan, peas, chickpeas, black beans, edamame beans, white beans, etc. Protein should be included with every meal so that you can feel fuller as well as feed your bodies muscles

Starchy Carbs

Who doesn’t like starchy carbs? Your plate should be filled with 25% of these fan favorites. With a plant based diet, you can choose any from sweet potato, white regular potato, oats, quinoa, rice, buckwheat, millet, farro and more! Carbs are your body’s source of energy so don’t fear them. They transform to glucose in your body which our muscles, liver, brains and other organs live off of, so don’t shy away from putting them on your plate!

Non-Starchy Veggies

Last, but no least are non-starchy veggies. These should be 50% of your meal. Everyone knows the that veggies are important. After all, they aid your body with so much and are loaded with antioxidants, essential vitamins and minerals! You have your choice of any from avocado, asparagus, broccoli, beetroot, cauliflower, cabbage, carrot, leafy greens (spinach, kale, arugula), tomato and others.
