What Excess Weight Does To Your Insides

Let’s briefly take s snapshot. Look at the fat (white) surrounding the organs in the woman on the left. Do you also see the fat around her heart  and around her brain? A little scary, isn’t it? Look at the compression around the stomach and internal organs. Do you think that would have any impact on GERD (gastroesophogeal reflux disease) and indigestion? Look at the compressed knee joints. Do you think those joints ache a little more than they should? This is just a small list of things of what excess weight does to your insides. 

THE DANGERS

If that isn’t enough, let me share some more with you about what excess weight does to your insides. According to the CDC (1), being overweight or obese can put you at risk for the following: 

  • All-causes of death (mortality)
  • High blood pressure (hypertension)
  • High LDL cholesterol
  • Low HDL cholesterol
  • High levels of triglycerides 
  • Type 2 diabetes
  • Coronary heart disease
  • Stroke
  • Gallbladder disease
  • Osteoarthritis 
  • Sleep apnea and breathing problems
  • Many types of cancers external icon
  • Low quality of life
  • Mental illness such as clinical depression, anxiety, and other mental disorders
  • Body pain
  • Difficulty with physical functioning

 

NOT A LIFE SENTENCE

Good news… obesity and being overweight are not a life sentences! Both can be resolved with eating right and exercise. I’m not saying you have to eat only salads and spend hours upon hours working out at a gym. Start your fitness journey by making small adjustments to what you’re already doing, then doing that consistently. That pairing creates a long term, sustainable healthy lifestyle.

I know it can be hard to get healthy, but isn’t your life, your health, and you being comfortable in your own body (both inside and out) worth it? Life is about living it to the best of your ability and to be able to have the life you have always imagined. Don’t let your weight stop you from enjoying all that life has to offer
