Stress and Your Health

Stress. We all experience it.
Some days we have more, others less. Stress and your health are directly related to one another. If you have too much stress, it can cause a variety of unhealthy conditions: heart disease, anxiety, weight gain, sleep loss, etc. Don’t believe me? Stress Relief Ideas

It’s important to take time to recenter and refocus.  My husband finds meditation to be his preferred choice. I’ve tried his method and well, I relax a little too much and usually fall asleep. That was fine with life before having a kid, but now… I need to be on my toes just in case. Therefore, I’ve switched to coloring. I put on my glasses, turn on quiet music, sit at my desk or dining room table, then color in my ocean themed adult coloring book.

Below is a list of ways you can unwind at home. Give some of these a try.

  • Meditate
  • Take a bath
  • Sit in the sun
  • Write in a journal
  • Savor a cup of tea (or coffee)
  • Listen to a podcast
  • Read a book
  • Create something
  • Exercise
  • Take a nap
  • Coloring
  • Painting
  • Dance
  • Sing

The key is to find whatever works best for you and to be consistent. Is your way to de-stress on this list? If not, what do you do to de-stress and refocus? To make sure you keep your stress in check, take 30 minutes to yourself every day to destress or at the very least do something enjoyable.  Having a balance across all aspects of health (mental, emotional, social, psychological, spiritual, physical, etc) is super important. Taking time everyday for yourself will keep these in balance.

Another Way to Unwind

Another way I like to relax is cooking. Now, I realize that for some of you, that causes stress. If that’s the case, then obviously don’t choose that as your distressing technique. I grew up cooking and baking with my mom and sister. Those fond memories I believe are part of the reason why I enjoy cooking and baking so much as an adult now.

With that said, I’ll post some of the healthy recipes I make so you can add them to your stock of healthy meal and snack collections. Keep checking out our blog for more ideas to keep your recipe arsenal fresh. Variety will help you stay on track to reaching health and fitness goals.
